I became one of the unlucky people to get let go from work after 4 dedicated years.  There are millions of us in the United States who have lost our jobs over the last year or so.  Most of us have families to provide for.  What happens when our kids are sick now that we have no medical insurance?  The cost of medical coverage is through the roof so how would we pay the bill especially with no paycheck coming in?  Cobra health insurance is usually offered after the employers insurance expires, but who can afford it?  It costs more than what you were paying to begin with.

Most people don’t realize they still need to carry health insurance especially in between jobs. Of course it didn’t cross my mind at all.  I wasn’t even aware that you could buy short term temporary health insurance.  I’m certainly aware of it now because I ended up with an injury while I was out of work.  I was stuck with medical bills I couldn’t pay and it went on my credit report as bad credit which will negatively affect me for at least 7 years.

After my accident and that whole ordeal I started looking for affordable health insurance ppo plans & hmo plans that were for short term.  I looked into the Assurant Health Insurance short term plan, Aetna Health & a couple others.  They all looked great but I had no clue which was best for me.  They all had different options, different terms & prices. Not only was I clueless but I was getting kind of discouraged, it was time-consuming filling out all the applications and then trying to compare each policy to the next.

I did come across a company which was sort of a life saver.  All I had to do was submit 1 application and they gave me short term health insurance quotes for many different companies at once.  The quotes you get are all based on your specific criteria and catered to you from a list of hundreds of medical insurance companies.  I had a short term individual health plan within 24 hours of submitting my application.

The only thing I didn’t like was that some of the quotes from certain companies were only estimates but still gave a ball park figure.  I just focused on the rest of the quotes and found a cheap health insurance short term plan that I could afford.

Ok well here’s what happened to me and with no health coverage I’m paying for it now. So I went skiing one weekend with my friends and biffed it pretty good. I ended up fracturing my arm which was no fun. When I went to the emergency room they wanted my insurance plan info but I had no medical insurance anymore. I had to sign all the paperwork so I was financially responsible before they would even see me. To make a long story short I got stuck with a huge medical bill that I can’t pay right now. Since this incident I signed up for a low cost short term health insurance plan.  At least I’m covered if something else happens.  I’m kicking myself now for not having some kind of health plan but who would’ve thought.  So I strongly suggest if you are in between jobs you should get short term health insurance because it will cost you much less than the bills I am stuck with.

If you didn’t read my “About Me” page I will tell you why I had to get cheap health insurance short term.  Unfortunately I was laid off from my job of 4 years leaving me with no health coverage.  Due to the bad economy they had to eliminate 40 employees and you guessed it I was one of them.  Being out of work I have plenty of time on my hands until I find something else.  I am taking advantage of this time though and doing plenty of stuff I wouldn’t normally be able to do working all day.  I am worried all the time about getting hurt while doing some of these activities because I am very clumsy and with no health insurance I can’t really afford that.  But of course I did get hurt which forced me to get short term medical insurance until I find employment.  Stay tuned and  I will tell you what happened to me & why I created this website.
